“Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future” With this motto this year on 15 July 2023 World Youth Skill Day is going to be celebrated. In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly established 15 July as World Youth Skills Day, Highlighting the critical role that teachers, trainers, and other educators play in teaching skills for youth to transition to the job market and to actively contribute to their communities and society.

History:

The United Nations was founded in 1945 to maintain global peace, security, humanitarian support, defend human rights, and uphold international law. It has evolved with changes in international relations, such as decolonization, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of the US. Today, the organization focuses on achieving its 17 sustainable development goals. In 2014, World Youth Skills Day was announced to highlight the skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship, allowing policy partners, employers, and educational programs to engage with young people about their future needs.

Activities

The primary purpose of World Youth Skills Day is to underscore the necessity of training young persons with skills for employment, entrepreneurship, and increased livelihoods. It acts as a forum to advocate for and organize support for youth skills development, pushing governments, organizations, and individuals to engage in programs that enable young people to gain the required skills for decent jobs and sustainable development.

On this day, several activities, seminars, workshops, and conferences are scheduled at local, national, and international levels to stimulate the exchange of best practices, debates on policy frameworks, and new approaches to adolescent skills development. These initiatives aim to address the obstacles and possibilities experienced by young people in the employment market and study solutions to solve the skills gap.

Celebration of World Youth Skill day

  • A panel discussion about World Youth Skills Day is organized by the U.N. Attend the live stream.
  • The effort to upskill young people around the world is greatly aided by World Youth Skills Day. Talk about the day on social media to spread awareness.
  • Offer to mentor young people looking to learn the skills you know if you are an adult with a career. It might contribute to the development of their future.

The importance of lifelong learning and skill development is emphasized on World Kids Skills Day, which recognizes children as an important demographic in shaping the future. To ensure young people’s active engagement in economic and social development, it highlights the necessity for comprehensive and inclusive skill development programs that cater to their different skills, backgrounds, and goals.

According to the U.N., the purpose of World Youth Skills Day is to “celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.” Events in celebration of the day tend to incorporate chances to give young people venues for interaction with educational institutions, businesses, legislators, and development partners. Giving young people access to education is one of the best ways to assist them, and there are many scholarships available to do this. The upskilling of the youth has become increasingly crucial because the globe is steadily turning to sustainable development.
