We all have experienced the feeling of being “lost” at some point of our lives. This can be some of the worst feelings to conquer as we have no idea what to do. When we are sad, we cry; when we get angry, we vent or fight; when we are happy we smile and laugh. But what to do when you are feeling lost? This is what most of us can’t decode.

What’s it like to feel lost?

Though nearly most of us have gone through this crisis, many of us fail to detect it. The feeling of being disconnected with life, being emotionally numb, hopelessness and helplessness can be some of the symptoms of feelings lost. It’s like losing navigation in a maze. There are several routes, but we don’t know which one to choose. Because, if for any reason we choose the wrong path, we might never get out. Similar thing happens with life. There are endless options around us and we get scared with only one thing; what if things don’t work out as planned? This leads to confusions and misunderstandings. We don’t know what to choose and whom to trust. This is when we feel lost; as if we don’t know the way to return home, although we are right at home. All of this goes on in your head, only you are one to get this feeling. There is no way of sharing this issue as no one around you will understand. Parents might call you entitled, friends might make fun of you and siblings are going to designate you as a loser.

How to find yourself back?

Many people mix this feeling with depression as both of them are really similar. But there are ways to get out of the state of being lost. Now since we have identified the cause, let’s focus on how to get rid of that feeling and find your old self back.

Get back on your feet: You might have already realised that you are on your own here. There’s none in the same shoes as you right now, that’s why, they will never perceive the way you are feeling no matter how much you try to share it with them. So the sooner you stand up on your own the better. You have to rescue yourself from the labyrinth as this is your life to lead, not theirs.

Take a few days off: Sometimes the monotonous life makes you feel stuck. This causes a lethargic situation which hinders the normal pace of your life. Taking a break can hugely help here. Go out for a vacation, play your favourite sport for a while; or simply just spend the day however you like. This simple vacation can recharge you, making you feel a lot better.

Stop comparing: When you see other people make progress while you are still in the same position as before, this can be a very common thing to feel a bit down. It’s high time we stop this unhealthy comparison. Everyone has a different life; different struggles and different destinations, you simply can’t achieve what you aren’t meant to. Rice crops will never be able to grow in sandy soils like watermelons. Just like plants, people also shine in different fields.

Volunteer and Charity: Lastly and most importantly, make changes in people’s life. We never really considered volunteering as a remedy for mental health, but it helps a lot. When we help someone in need, get to see the unfortunate lives of many people and bring smiles on their faces, it gives another kind of happiness. This happiness is ethereal, a piece of heaven on earth.

It’s not a big deal to be a little lost in your life, everyone is in theirs. But however deep it is, we should be able to get back on track. Try the mentioned tips. All of these ways are tried and tested, it should bring a positive impact on your life.
