Ratargul swamp forest or Ratargul Swamp Forest is the only freshwater wetland or swamp forest and wildlife sanctuary in Bangladesh, located at Gowainghat in Sylhet. To go to Ratargul, you first need to go to Kadamtala bus stand from Sylhet district, from where Ratargul is located 26 km away.
The Ratargul wetland covers an area of 3,325.61 acres, of which 504 acres of forest was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1973. There are only 22 freshwater wetlands in the world. There are two in the Indian subcontinent. One in Sri Lanka, another in Ratargul, Bangladesh. The Ratargul Swamp Forest is compared to the Amazon, one of the largest forests in the world.
One of the reasons for comparison with the Amazon is that most of the trees in this forest are submerged under water for 4 to 7 months. There are many snakes living in this forest. Besides, there are monkeys, snakes, white bucks, kana bucks, mashrangas, tias, bulbuls, pankauris, dhupis, doves, chiles and hawks. You can visit Ratargul Jalaban at any time of the year. However, the beauty of this forest can be seen much more during the rainy season.
SREEMANGAL
Srimangal Cha Bagan is an upazila in Moulvibazar district of Sylhet division of Bangladesh. This upazila is called the tea capital of our country. Sreemangal Upazila is located in the southwest of Sylhet district and is bounded by Habiganj district to the west and Tripura state of India to the south. Apart from tea, Sreemangal upazila is also widely known for rubber, pineapple, wood, betel, and lemon industries.
There are various famous sightseeing places in this upazila, which attract tourists. Many foreign tourists including domestic tourists come to visit this upazila throughout the year. Since there is no inscription of the six-domed mosque, no accurate information about the founding and construction period of this mosque has been found. However, the architecture of the mosque suggests that it was built by Khan-i-Jahan in the 1500s. Dome Mosque is one of the many traditional places in Bangladesh. In 1983 UNESCO gave the status of Bagerhat city as a World Heritage Site.
Various historians believe that this mosque got its name of Seven Domes and Sixty Domes as there are 7 rows of domes in a row. Many historians believe that the domes are located on 60 stone pillars, hence the name Sixty.
