Al Jazeera aims to contribute to the development of high-quality journalism in the Global South and help journalists adapt to modern technologies, encourage innovation and research, enrich journalistic content in the Global South, and provide an opportunity for journalists and researchers to be involved in AJMN’s work culture and environment and learn about its journalistic practices.
What are the benefits of the Al Jazeera Fellowship Program?
- Join a team within AJMAN and gain hands-on experience of the working zone.
- Get the opportunity to write a 7,000-word research paper on selected fields of journalism.
- Meet with editors, journalists, and other staff members relevant to their research proposal. It will help you gain a wide range of networks, and you can learn from them about their aspects of journalism.
Who is eligible for this program?
- IF you are a Full-time journalist and researcher with a background in media or social sciences this is for you.
- How long will the fellowship program take?
The programme will take two months to complete, divided into two main phases:
- Phase 1 (To be completed remotely): The researcher will work on and submit a research plan and an introduction to his or her research paper before proceeding to phase 2.
- Phase 2 (To be completed at Al Jazeera Media Network Headquarters): The researcher will continue the research until final submission of the paper.

- Reshaping journalistic approaches in the global south : Obstacles of western – focused methods and the development of local frameworks.
- Colonialism and globalization in media and journalism: The repercussion of colonial history and globalization on journalistic procedures in the Global South.
- Data flows and narrative challenges: The influence of linear data flow on reports in the Global South, and the role of Southern reports in shaping global discourse (e.g., media coverage of the war on Gaza).
- The outcome of Western funding programs on media in the Global South: The part of Western-funded media programs in effecting journalistic practices.
- Digital Journalism:
- How has storytelling developed from traditional to digital journalism? Have media outlets concentrated more on technological innovation and visual appeal at the expense of content quality and storytelling?
- Fact-checking and news verification in journalism.
- The cross road of journalism and modern technologies in smart newsrooms, mobile journalism, data journalism, and investigative journalism.
- AI integration in newsrooms.
- New Schools in Journalism:
- Rising trends in journalism.
- Photo-documentary journalism.
