There are days when you don’t feel like doing anything at all, and everything seems pretty much hard. What if you grab a book from your old shelves and start to think how much you used to be an avid reader, but within time, you lost the habit. Thinking about it, you suddenly feel like reading one of your books from the shelf, and you realize how much this habit of reading books has changed your life throughout the years. The kind of change might seem like an impossible goal if you don’t consider yourself a reader, but there is so much to be gained from sitting down with a good book. It will open your eyes, your heart, and your mind to new experiences and opinions, which will improve and enrich you both personally and professionally.

Through reading, I have found a healthy way to deal with depression. It has been a stress reliever and an escape from reality. When I read a book, I tend to get lost in the stories, so by engaging myself in books, I don’t waste my time thinking about unnecessary stuff.

As I try to read as much as I can, I have decided to start doing a written version of a book haul. In short, a book haul is a review of the books which are read each month. I n this way, I’m learning and implanting the lessons in my life too. Putting them into practice, I can look at things more precisely.

I consider reading a form of meditation. When you sit down and spend time with a book, you are forced to concentrate on something that’s unlike almost anything else in the current world. It doesn’t have bright colors, and it’s not switching colors. It’s just words on-page. The amount of focus that I have found readers to have in comparison to non-readers is incredible. It paints a beautiful picture of a disciplined mind.

When I’m out at a social event, I can see situations develop as they are happening. When I’m in a meeting at work, I’m more in tune with others’ emotions and thoughts. I have an increased level of patience, self-awareness, and focus.

Reading books has helped me to clarify my thoughts. It has an increased perspective on the world and the ability to show empathy more easily. It also improved my vocabulary (Both in diversity and depth). I never had a large vocabulary, but when I engaged myself in reading books slowly, I discovered that now I have a diverse set of words at my disposal, and I’m able to describe certain situations in more detail and color.

Reading has made me more open-minded as a person and has given me a new perspective and understanding.

Once it becomes a habit, you will find yourself smarter and more refined. You will subconsciously reject irrelevant information spewed out everywhere and absorb everything that piques your interest.

Reading is the second-best way to learn about other people, cultures, and attitudes other than being there and meeting them. Reading gives us the opportunity to explore both the past and the future as well. The sense of accomplishment and the satisfaction you will experience at the end of a good book can hardly be matched.

So reading books is actually beneficial for both physical and mental health.
