There would be two significant change to the way students are examined under the proposed education reform in Bangladesh: there will be “no final examination” up to grade three and “no public examination” before grade 10.Two elements are changed in accordance with this proposed proposal:
A complete overhaul of the course curriculum and New techniques for assessment.
Reforming education has historically been a component of the worldwide developmental process that most nations have given attention to. Reforming education is an ongoing process. On the other hand, the majority of American educational reform, for instance, was only put into practice in the last century. The three most important components of the reform are support for public schools, social justice and equity.
Reason Behind Education Reform: Like every other sector, the education sector also needs reform. The old education system has become obsolete and it is necessary to change it with a new one. The United States’ current educational trends show numerous accomplishment inequalities across income levels, races, and geographic areas.
According to an analysis conducted in 2009 by McKinsey & Company, “These educational gaps impose the economic equivalent of a permanent national recession on the United States”.
The textile industries and the foreign remittance of Bangladeshi workers abroad are the main drivers of Bangladesh’s economic strength. But those industries are primarily run by low –wage , uneducated, unskilled laborers . Regretfully, the current government has prioritized educational reform in a number of measures aimed at producing a competent workforce, as this process of economic growth is likely to be unsustainable.
Reform is still under progress: America saw firsthand the devastating effects of racism , inequality and income inequality on the nation’s dismal progress in education. Enhancing American schooling became a national goal. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd US president, once remarked cannot, “We can build our youth for the future, but we cannot build the future for our youth.” This was the exact rationale behind several suggested reforms to American education. A number of these changes, including college-bound culture, increased enrollment in nature preschools and forest kindergartens, charter school popularity and enrollment, significantly impacted the expansion of American education.
Reforming Multicultural Education: Clearly defining what multicultural education is would be the first step towards realizing its necessity. Following is the definition provided by the National Association for Multicultural Education:
Based on the principle of justice, equality, equity and human dignity, multicultural education is a philosophical idea that is recognized in a number of official documents, including the United States Declaration of Independence, the constitutions of South Africa and the United States and the United Nations’ Universal declaration of Human Rights. The statement validates the need of preparing students for their future roles in a globalized society. It acknowledges how important schools are in helping students acquire the values and attitudes.
Bangladeshi Education Reform: In Bangladesh, although primary education is free and the government provides the textbook. Moreover , while our school enrolment rate is still high , the dropout rate is even higher. Most of these dropouts happen in rural areas. Because the quality of school and standard of teaching there are poor, many parents feel reluctant to send their children to schools. Bangladesh has a vision to become a developed nation by 2041.
But our education budget doesn’t reflect the urgency of developing human resources. Our policymakers need to realize that if someone’s basic education is weak, it is necessary to redesign our primary , secondary and higher secondary education. Prevocational education, information and communication technology (ICT) based education must be considered a priority area for inclusion and development from the secondary level (class 9) to the higher secondary level (class 12) , to provide a foundation of basic skill and knowledge that will help students acquire technical skills.
Teachers from Bangladesh Need to Take up Leadership Roles: The data from several nations where education reform was eventually effective show that the system as a whole is highly extensive and frequently faces challenges. For the reform to be initiated and sustained , teachers must possess strong leadership qualities.
Bangladesh’s educational system is still not up to mark. In another sense, the education system and standards lag behind those in other nations. One of the biggest issues facing Bangladesh’s education system since independence has been the absence of a unified curriculum. So hopefully this new curriculum will be effective as per expectation.
