Different people have different types of moods and different types of Emotions. Many people think emotions and moods are the same thing. But it is not true.
Emotions are short lived feelings that occur for some reason. Meanwhile, Moods are long lasting feelings which can occur without reason.
For Example: If you are gifted with a Mobile Phone, you will be surprised. Here the feeling of surprise is your Emotions.
And if you feel so happy for a long time because this is your birthday then it is your mood.
Now let’s some common types of Emotions & Moods:
Emotions: Emotions are very numerous in life. Emotions are very specific & short lived. Here are some Emotions:
- Happiness: The joy and pleasure you feel when you hear any good news or when you become successful. It does not last for weeks or months.
- Sadness: When you feel sorrow because of sad incidents that happen in life.
- Fear: When you become panicked about something.
- Disgust: It is a primary emotion. When you see something dirty or harmful you may feel disgust.

- Shame: The feeling of embarrassment in unwanted situation. It is very short lasting.
Moods: Moods are long lasting feelings which can last for hours, weeks, months or a year. Moods can be influenced by our thoughts, behaviours and interactions with people. Different types of moods include:

Emotions vs Moods: In the above discussion we saw the different types of emotions and moods. It is slightly clear to us now that emotions and moods have differences. Now let’s briefly know the differences of emotions & moods:
- Emotions are very small lasting feelings. It lasts for seconds to minutes. On the other hand moods are long lasting feelings which last for hours or even a week.
- Emotions are high intense feelings. On the contrary, Moods are low intense feelings.
- Emotions caused by specific events and interactions. But the reason for having different types of moods are still unknown.
- Emotions may be visible in people’s facial expressions. On the other hand, moods can not be defined by facial expressions.
Emotions and Moods may look similar but differ by intensity, duration and causes. Emotion can turn into a long lasting mood. For example: When you hear good news, you become happy for a moment. You laugh and have fun with others. It is your emotions. But when this emotion lasts long, it becomes your mood. For example: Suppose you heard good news. And because of this news your mind becomes happy. You remain happy for hours and even for a week. So now it is called Moods. Emotions and Moods are part of our daily lives. Controlling our emotions and moods at the right moment is very necessary and important.
