After the spheres of school, a place where more or less all the students are directed by superiors like their parents and teachers, get into undergraduate studies, be it in a college or in a university. This place is totally different from schools; there will be no one to guide you the right path as the parents are too old and professors are too busy. That’s why indulging oneself only in studies is not a good route at all. Undergraduate students need to get into extracurricular activities to get the things they lack themselves.
Firstly let’s decode the reason why this is so crucial for every undergraduate student.
Beyond Textbooks: The Gift of Extracurriculars
Many college students underestimate the power of extracurriculars and prioritise their studies and grades before that. Understandably grades and bookish knowledge are very important, but co-curricular activities are also equally impactful for the students. While books and classes develop the knowledge of a student, these activities prepare them to fight with real life difficulties.
A student who is actively engaged in extracurriculars has the following things in shape:
Network: Through various activities, students can meet other students or their seniors and actively engage with them. This helps them to build a connection with people whom they could never meet otherwise.
Boosting resume: A fresh graduated student can add all their extracurricular activities in their resume. This will help further boost their portfolio than others.
Career path: Engaging in regular activities helps students to truly evaluate themselves. A student who is active in various fields knows exactly what to do and when to take the next step.
Develop skills: Through outward activities, students can develop many skills which are impossible to be cultivated in schools.
Discover passion: We know there are various career paths in each field. Students can discover those paths and search for their passions through extracurricular activities.
Lasting friendships: Through these activities, students can connect with others with similar passions and thoughts. There are thousands of students in a university and this is the only way to find people who share common things with you. Thus they can create a friendship for lifetime and these are the people who stay with them not their academic rivals.
Paths for Extracurriculars
Students should have a clear idea on how to create extracurricular activities as their secret weapon. They can get engaged in the following things in order to do so:
Clubs and communities: Students should get them involved in the various clubs and communities of the university, they should choose them according to their passion and desires.
Volunteer works: Students can get involved as a volunteer in various events which a college or university hosts. This will help them meet many people from high society and improve their networks.
Participate in events: students should participate in the events which are organised throughout the year. The participation certificate can be a great addition to a freshers resume.
Arrange events: Students should also try to arrange various events, like any competition or ted talk on their own. This will teach them event management and also their face will be well known to others in the college.
Overall doing these activities improves the experience of a student who is a novice to the corporate world. They gather knowledge, skill, experience, fame and what not from extracurricular activities. Every undergraduate student should thus participate in these activities as much as they can for their betterment.
