The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. It encompasses integrity, empathy, responsibility and other traits that guide our actions and interactions with others.

During our youth we seamlessly integrate many traits into our overall character which later in life, define our actions. That’s why it’s imperative to look into what we are exposing our minds to.

Now, building character is a lifelong journey and It cannot be built in a day. Youth is the perfect time to start on it.
students can utilise their co-curricular activities as tools to shape their character.

How?

Well…. Qualities of Character  and Aid of Co-curricular Activities in Achieving it. Let’s take a look,

Integrity:
The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles means integrity.

Accountability:
When working together on a task, one has to always answer another about their actions.

Character Modelling: normally the person in charge has to look and feel honest in managing everybody. this makes the others to follow that persons example

EMPATHY:
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

Working in clubs:
Teams, groups and so on eventually grant you the ability to see things from another’s point of view.

RESILIENCE:
The capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.

You are bound to fail in a number of tasks if you take part in a lot of them. This will grant you the mental strength needed to look past failure. As they say, “no pain no gain.” this will help you significantly in life’s ups and downs

RESPONSIBILITY
The state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone.

Working in Student Councils:
school newspapers and social clubs can introduce one to the concept of responsibility and how to carry them out accordingly.

CONTINUOUS LEARNING:
Lifelong learning is the “ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated” pursuit of learning for either personal or professional reasons.

Throughout school life, college life and then University life and maybe higher education, one can always learn new things by interacting with people with varying backgrounds and ages.

SOCIAL SMARTNESS:
A person’s competence to optimally understand one’s environment and react appropriately for socially successful conduct.

Working in clubs or as a Volunteer one will have to interact with society people and this
Interacting with a Variety of People in a society will teach one how the society functions and how to pick up certain queues and also act accordingly.

NETWORKING:
The action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.

Clubbing, volunteering and other such activities will make one familiar with a lot of people and one will have formed a lot of connections.
Networking is a necessary tool in the job sector.so, this will give one some advantage over others.

Now, let me tell you what will happen if you don’t try to be in any other activities than your academic ones.
You will only be good at one particular skill. You will have no connections to the outside world. You will have less social skills than others. And, you will fall behind others in terms of social standing. No one will know you and no one will recommend you to any one. You will be almost alone. After your academics.

But sadly in Bangladesh, not much attention is given to any other achievements besides academic ones.Hopefully, the new curriculum will bring about a change in that mind set.
