Laziness is becoming a serious problem for us nowadays. Many researchers and experts are saying that people are becoming more and more lazy day by day. We procrastinate our tasks at hand because of being lazy at the moment.
Laziness can stem from fear of failure, lack of motivation etc. If we can make ourselves believe that the tasks are simple and easily doable, we are more likely to be motivated to complete them.
Some things you can follow to get rid of laziness-
- FOCUS ON YOUR HEALTH :
You might have heard about this like a million times but – Healthy diet, regular exercise and enough sleep ARE the key things for your overall well-being. Lack of any of these three will result in you being lethargic.
Proper nutritious food gives us the vitamins and fibers we need. Regular exercise helps give us energy in our body to do physical and mental work. Enough sleep makes sure our body and mind stays fit.
- CREATE AND MAINTAIN A ROUTINE :
If you lack motivation because of an unorganized schedule and work, making a routine would be best for you.
You can plan your day ahead by deciding what you are going to do the entire day.
Important factor here is clarifying your task as specifically as you can.
“I would exercise for an hour from 8am to 9am daily after waking up”, would be much more effective than just saying “I am going to exercise today.”
- MAKE A TO-DO LIST :
If a tight-scheduled routine is not your thing, you can try daily to-do lists. In this case, you are going to make a list of things that have to be done the following day.
There would be no time blocked for a specific task, so you can be flexible with the timing.
After completing one task, you can tick on the list. So when you complete tasks one after another you can see your progress on the paper. It helps give you a feeling of achievement and makes you motivated to do more work.
- EASY TO DO BITE-SIZED TASKS :
You can make your tasks on your list easily doable. When you break down a bigger task into smaller pieces, you can easily do them one by one.
Big tasks may make us unmotivated and more lazy to do it. Smaller tasks seem pretty easy to do and don’t seem much time consuming.
For example, deciding to clean your house is a big task. You can break it down to just cleaning your own bedroom. Then further breaking it down to just organizing your study table.
Then you can do these smaller tasks one by one,and soon your big task will be completed with lesser effort and energy.
- MAKE A REWARD SYSTEM :
When we say we are going to achieve XYZ if we complete this work, then we get motivated to do it.
The prize works as an incentive for our efforts. We look forward to the prize we’re going to get and thus our performance improves.
So, make a system of reward whenever you complete a task. The reward can be anything you like – a piece of chocolate, an episode of your favorite series, playing a game that you like etc.
The reward is going to be on your mind while doing the tough work. Thus making the tough work fun and much easier to do.
Laziness might have become a habit for a lot of us. But if we want to overcome it and be productive, we have to believe that we can make it happen. These steps can push you to do better but real change will start in your mind first. So, make sure that you prepare your mind and then get ready to beat laziness once and for all!
