The term ‘Big Tech’ refers to the influential companies that dominate the industry in terms of their sheer size, and financial influence. The ‘Big Tech’ companies have a massive global footprint, boasting a user volume in billions. 

In the coming years, there will be exponential growth in the number of jobs in the tech industry. Currently, when talking about working in big tech, people imagine nap rooms, colorful offices, free snacks, ping-pong tables etc. 

But working in tech can be tougher than they think. Many people want jobs at these companies but don’t know how to get them. I will write about some effective ways to land a job in big tech-

  • Have a strong resume:

You have to focus on having a strong resume to stand out in the field. You have to optimize it in terms of tracking system screening and human readers. A good resume must include the tech stack you are proficient in. Long and wordy resumes aren’t liked by most recruiters, so keep it short and to the point. Using keywords is a good way to optimize the resume.

  • Be fast paced

The big tech companies are highly fast-paced. Survival in these companies requires the ability to cope with constant changes in the fast-paced environments. Landing a job will be hard, but surviving will be harder.  

  • Have diverse knowledge

Not every position in a big tech company requires a particular type of knowledge. Their roles will vary from developer, system analyst, data scientist, and programmers etc. Having diverse knowledge will increase the chance of recruitment.

  • Keep learning continuously

The change is happening in big tech fast and sudden. Surviving in these environments requires the ability to learn quickly and continuously. In the tech space, innovation keeps happening. So. If you’re a  developer or engineer, get used to learning new and complex stuff regularly.

  • Keep up-to-date with important tools

Developers keep making lots of new tools. To stay on track, you should know the important details about these tools. 

  • Routinely implement your knowledge

When you make a habit of using what you’ve learned, it helps you speak confidently during technical interviews. It increases not only your knowledge but also your muscle reflex. It translates to faster and clearer replies.

  • Have a knack to stand out

Do unique projects, create unique open-source codes, launch side projects that bring users etc. These activities demonstrate professional passion, helping you stand out against thousands of applicants.

  • Prepare early for technical interviews

Perfect practice makes a man perfect and it helps a lot. Starting early and preparing will give you head start on your journey of pursuing a job in big tech. Research the types of questions asked, outreach to people who have undergone the critical process of interview and most importantly, practice the tech skills you are weaker in.

  • Keep a good network

For landing a tech job, having a good network increases the chance severalfold. This means, you will have a strong referral if you have a good network. Joining professional organizations or social media groups and participating in mentorship programs is highly advised.

Tech is ever changing, full of discovery and potential. The enormous effect of tech on this world attracts people to land a job in this sector. It is one of those industries that give people the scope of growth and disruption. People who thrive for impact choose these industries to make the world a better place to live in.
