Is 16th December an ordinary day in Bangladesh?
Well, it’s more than that. On this day, Bangladesh commemorates its brave heroes’ courage which led to the birth of a nation. We remember the bravery and sacrifices of our heroes. With pride and glory, we celebrate this day. It is a proof of our resilience and undying spirit that led us to make our country independent. 16th December, our Victory Day, is the heartbeat of our nation which works as a stark reminder that unity and bravery can lead to transforming a new identity. But how does Bangladesh live this legacy today?
Unity and Resilience
The victory of Bangladesh was not possible without resilience. People from all walks united to set the country free from oppressors. The resilience of the general mass strengthened their belief which works as a core force even today in Bangladesh. The power of unity mirrors the teachings of the Liberation War. And this makes us strong in modern days to move forward.
Economic Growth
After 1971, Bangladesh struggled a lot to transform its economic growth. In the modern world, its garment industry is leading globally. With a strong garment industry, Bangladesh has become a strong economy. Labourers are being hired from Bangladesh to work abroad. Therefore, Bangladesh’s development is celebrated as a role for development. Bangladesh is working to remove poverty.
Women Making a Difference
Women contributed greatly in 1971. They exhibited brave qualities. They helped the freedom fighters, nursed them, served them food, and stood strong with the hope of creating a new identity. Even today they continue to thrive. Our victory made their base strong. The notion of equality and opportunity inspire them to work for self-sufficiency. In modern Bangladesh, the contribution of women is undeniable. They are working hand in hand with men and leaving their stagnant mark in almost all of the sectors. They lead in various fields, making the country progress faster.
Preserving our Spirit
Bangladesh’s diverse culture enhances its beauty. And the Victory Day makes the traditions more alive. Through art, music, cinema, songs, and plays the spirit of 1971 is presented in different manner. The struggles and sacrifices of our heroes as well as our common people are shown and that creates a sense of melancholy and engagement with the legacy of our victory day. The youth is full of power and energy. Their energy can be shaped with the connection of our resilient spirit. Our young generation are our flag bearers. They are the representatives from bringing about technological progress to causing change in pressing social issues. Additionally, art tells the history, leading to thought provoking innovation. Letting our new generation of our Victory Day through the creative medium of art is our responsibility. This legacy needs to be passed on and kept alive.
Every year, on 16th December, we remember the tragic nine-month war. It reminds us of how love for the nation makes one courageous. We celebrate the day, commemorate the brave warriors, and we hope to make a better change. Our flag reminds us of our responsibilities towards our nation and its people. We cannot let the brave ones sacrifice go in vain by devaluation the significance of the Victory Day.
