Do you ever feel that you have been lucky enough regarding what you have achieved? Though you are unsuitable for success, do you still have that position? If the answer is yes, perhaps you have a syndrome called ‘Imposter Syndrome’. Since it is not just a mere feeling, but rather a syndrome that can hinder you from the success of your career, one must know what is all about ‘imposter syndrome’.

What is Imposter Syndrome?

When you cannot accept your achievements or your success due to your thinking that you are not worthy enough for all these, then it is called ‘imposter syndrome’. This may lead you to think that, probably people are considering you as a knowledgeable or worthy person, but you do not actually deserve all these praises, and soon people will find out that you are not that capable.

How can this create disturbance in your career?

Due to imposter syndrome, one may feel a lack of confidence. It will be very difficult for anyone who is going through this kind of situation. Due to the lack of confidence, one may lose one’s enthusiasm, energy, and concentration towards the work that used to be one’s passion. As a result, soon one can feel anxiety, disturbance, and a fall in his or her career. Even this feeling can be so evident that it may cause depression as well. For these reasons, it is necessary to acknowledge these symptoms if you are having any. An early recognition can give relief from this kind of suffocating feeling.

Ways to get rid of ‘imposter syndrome’:

Let go of your perception habit:

One of the major reasons for one’s feeling of imposter syndrome is due to their habit of perfection. ‘Being perfect’ is a habit that is most often considered a good thing, but sometimes it can lead you towards a heavy workload. As you want to do your work perfectly, you may feel pressured. Furthermore, it can lead one to procrastinate on things. As you want to ‘be perfect’, you can feel you are not doing enough.

Start a Positive Self-Talk to Yourself:

One becomes a person based on what he or she thinks about himself or herself. Due to that, it is very significant what you think about yourself. Do haphazard yourself with negative thoughts such as I do not deserve, I cannot do, I am not worthy, etc. With such thinking, you are destroying your self-esteem. Rather, you should make a positive statement that you have achieved these through your hard work. Thus, all your achievements make you worthy.

Celebrate your Accomplishments:

Since you have achieved all of your success by working hard, you should celebrate your accomplishments. You can just give small treats for your achievements, which will help you acknowledge your achievements.

Remember, you are not alone in this journey.  Many successful people often go through this syndrome; they fight against it, and ultimately they are still having a successful career. You just need to give yourself time so that you can reflect on yourself. Remember, this is a syndrome that also has treatment, which can give you a stress-free life if you can follow the techniques.
