“Long ago, in a land far away, there once rose an empire that stretched from the steppes of China to the shores of the Mediterranean,” the narrator narrates, “that empire was Persia.” Being adopted by the Persian King Sharaman, from the unlikeliest of the places, a courageous boy from the streets of Nasaf became a Prince of Persia. That’s how the story started.
Prince of Persia! Sounds familiar? Brings back memories, right? It’s the video game we used to play as kids, but this isn’t the story of the game, but rather the story of a prince, where young prince Dastan finds a time rewinding Dagger called ‘The Dagger of Time’. Interesting, right? It is the movie story of ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’, directed by English Film Director Mike Newell. Stay with me until the end to see what adventures Prince Dastan has been through.
Fifteen years after, the king’s brother Nizam presents evidence of Alamut’s weapons forgery for Persia’s enemies. For this, the princes captures the Holy City of Alamut under the orders of the first Prince Tus, as the King was absent. Are you thinking about how a city can do forgery holy? Keep reading and you’ll get to know.
During the fight, Prince Dastan encounters a strong soldier of Alamut, and captures ‘The Dagger of Time’. After they conquered Alamut, Prince Tus offers marriage to the Princess, Princess Tamina, and she accepts it immediately after knowing that Prince Dastan has captured the dagger from her man.
Shortly after their victory, Dastan on behalf of Tus offers the prayer robe of Alamut’s regent to his father during their celebration, which was poisoned earlier by the King’s brother Nizam but Dastan was unknown to it. The poison burnt and killed the King. Everyone blamed Dastan for the murder and as a result, Dastan had to flee from there and hide. Princess Tamina helped him flee and went along.
While in hiding, Tamina tries to murder Dastan to recapture the dagger from him and that’s when Dastan encounters the power of the dagger. Instantly, he realizes that their war against Alamut was not for weapons forgery but for that dagger, which Tus wanted as a tribute after the war. Thus, Dastan concludes that Tus did all this to become the greatest ruler of Persia with the help of the dagger. He then decided to expose Tus’s crime to his uncle Nizam as he was unknown of Nizam’s crimes, by going to Avrat at his father’s funeral. But they got captured by some merchant bandits led by Sheikh Amar who sought the reward money for capturing Dastan but Dastan managed to prove his innocence to Sheikh Amar.
Shortly after they arrive at Avrat, Dastan realizes by looking at the burnt hands of Nizam that he was behind all this and flees before Nizam could capture him. Afterward, Tamina tells Dastan the history of the dagger which was a gift of the gods in return for a little girl’s self-sacrifice to protect humankind from their wrath of sands that was afterward sealed inside a sandglass which can only be penetrated by the dagger. The city of Alamut was called holy because of this dagger and the sandglass as both of them were kept safe there. Then Dastan realizes that Nizam wanted the dagger to go back to his childhood and prevent himself from saving his elder brother Sharaman from the tiger attack and becoming the greatest king of Persia after growing up.
Garsiv afterward captures Dastan and Tamina, but Dastan manages to prove his innocence to Garsiv also. Still, shortly after that, he was killed by the Hassansins, the former secret assassin force of Persia, sent by Nizam to kill Dastan and capture the dagger. Before Dastan could do anything, Nizam also kills Tus and goes down to the sandglass to unleash the sands with the dagger and turn back time. Before he could succeed, Dastan stops him and turns back time to the place where he captures the dagger at Alamut war. After that, he presents the truth to everyone and saves the Holy City of Alamut. Tus afterward offers to marry the Princess with his little Prince Dastan, as he was the savior of the city. That’s how, Prince Dastan saves not only a city, but also Persia from a bad king and the world from the wrath of the gods.
