If I give you two choices, one choice is life and another is money, what will you choose? You can die if you choose money. But you have a problem with large debt. Don’t you choose money to pay the debt even if there is the possibility of your death? So, the Korean web series “SQUID GAME” is based on this. In Squid Game you have to play games and if you become the winner, you will win 45.6 billion korean won.
The first season of Squid Game was released on September 17, 2021. It has 9 episodes. It is the most viewed web series on Netflix. Here is my review of 9 Episodes of Squid Game Season 1:
Episode-1
The show focused on its main character named Seong Gi-Hun. Gi-Hun is facing a big debt problem. One day, a man in the train station told Gi-Hun to play ddakji for money. And then told Gi-Hun that he can win more if he participates in a game. Gi-Hun accepts the offer and finds himself in a place which is very hidden. There are 455 other players with Gi-Hun.
In the review, I can say, the first half looks simple and fun with no violence. But the episode showed its main violence in the end. Because in the first game named “Red Light Green Light” those who got eliminated, they got eliminated from there life. They got shooted by a group of people with red suits and black masks behind a doll. And the game is overseen by a black masked and black suited man named “Front Man”. The episode creates a mystery about who the Front Man is?
Episode-2
In the first episode half of the people got killed. Many survivors demand to leave the game without prize money. So the game organizer arranged a vote. And in the vote those who don’t want to play games are more than those who want to play games. So, they went back home.
This episode shows the thoughts of people. Because it shows the people cannot live without money. If they face problems with money, they can choose the path of death also.
Episode-3
Every player rejoined the game in this episode. A police officer named Jun-Ho secretly goes to the place with a view to searching for his missing brother. This episode creates mystery and suspense toward where Jun-Ho’s brother is.
Episode-4
This episode is also magnificent. It shows more information about the game. It shows the black marketing behind the game. Because many guards sell organs of half dead people in the black market. This episode shows more brutality as players were killed by other players. This episode also shows some adult scenes. So I think it isn’t appropriate for all audiences, especially for kids.
Episode-5
This episode reveals some secrets about Jun-Ho’s brother. It reveals that his brother was the winner of the game. Also, the game has been operating for 30 years. It creates more mystery about who created the game.
Episode-6
This episode is so emotional and full of betrayal. In this episode, Sung Woo betrayed his friend Ali and led him to death. Ali trusted Sung Woo from his heart. Also Gi-Hun betrayed his father figure Player-1. Player-1 often calls the Gi-Hun as Gganbu. Gganbu means best friend.
Episode-7
This Episode creates more mystery as the game is enjoyed by VIP’s. So, who the VIP’s it is a mystery.
Episode-8
This Episode Creates a twist, The Front Man opens his mask and reveals himself in front of Jun-Ho. And Front Man is none other than Jun-Ho’s big brother. This episode shows the tension between Gi-Hun and Sang Woo. As Sang Woo kills Sae-byeok.
Episode-9
In the last episode, Gi-Hun and Sang Woo faced each other in the last game. Gi-Hun refuses to kill Sang Woo but he kills himself. And Gi-Hun became the winner of 45.6 billion won. The episode revealed the most shocking truth about game makers. Because the maker is none other than Gin-Hu’s gganbu Player-1 ( Old II-Nam). And in the end Old II-Nam lost a challenge to Gi-Hun then he died.
In the Squid Game, Gin-Hun isn’t happy at all after winning the money. It teaches us money can not make you happy in life, it is a burden to you. Gi-Hun watches as the game is still going on. So, he now makes a promise to stop this mad game. Can he stop the game? The answer will be found in the Squid Game next two seasons.
