Are you procrastinating? Do you easily get distracted from any tasks? Do you have trouble staying focused? Then this blog is for you.
I’m going to introduce you to one of the most effective and scientifically proven methods. This blog will be a run-through of some tricks and tips that you’re looking for to improve your study plans.
No matter how hard you try, sometimes it becomes really difficult to grasp a concept or even master a complicated topic that you spent hours behind. Dear reader, let’s dive into the Feynman technique, where the difference will be easily noticed in your study progress.
As you can tell, the techniques were introduced by Nobel Prize winner and one of the greatest physicists, Richard Feynman. To explain the matter very briefly, it can be said like this “When you can explain something so well that even a child can understand it, you’re well-versed in that topic”.
The Feynman Technique comprises four steps:
💠Learning
💠Explaining
💠Reflecting
💠Simplifying.
Now let us dig into these four steps:
- Learning it yourself:
The topic that you find hard to comprehend or even a specific chapter, thoroughly read and learn it first. Gather all the important ingredients, materials, books, and notes that may help you study it. Find a comfortable place to study as well.
- Explain or teach it to someone else:
If you feel like you’re done studying, try and explain it to someone else. In that case, explain it to someone who does not have the slightest idea about the topic, hence a child. You don’t have to make your explanation hard with data and statistics; try to explain it in the simplest way possible and see if the kid understands it. You don’t necessarily have to teach it to a child. You can try this out with your friends or even with someone who already understands it a little. The sole purpose of this method is to explain it in such a manner that even a child understands it. Software engineers sometimes use this technique with a rubber duck! They break down the codes and explain them to it, which helps them with debugging and rearranging their thoughts.
- Reflect and refine:
Ask your audience questions on the topic and try to answer them. This will reveal your weak areas on the topic. If you fail to answer any questions or you find some gaps in your knowledge on any specific part, try and study that area carefully this time with your complete concentration. Figure out where your understanding is rough and not very detailed.
- Making it more comprehensive and abridged:
Finally, try to explain again in a much simpler way so that your audience finds it comprehensive and sees your thoughts rearranging themselves. This way, it will be stored in your memory for a longer period.
This is one of the many learning methods that have been proven to be effective. It is a little difficult to accelerate in a day after procrastinating for a certain amount of time. But it is also possible to do something one step at a time and finally get the hang of it. Keep practicing, and you will see yourself thriving in the future.
