Voices that matter: empowering human rights is a theme that highlights the importance of empowering and contributing to the protection of human rights.

What is human rights?

In a broad sense, human rights include all of the rights that a person requires to survive. Privileges are opportunities for a person to develop their talents. Humans have some basic rights which they need daily to live properly. These are education, medical, clothing, shelter, food, law etc. These rights have a great impact on the life of a person. Therefore, it is the responsibility of a state to ensure these rights.

History and context of human rights:

Indeed, except for some isolated demonstrations of international humanitarian concern in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the latter half of the 20th century can roughly be said to be the birth of international and universal recognition of human rights. Basically, the issue of human rights is in the context of the humanitarian disaster that occurred after the 2nd World War. Since then, various organizations of the United Nations have been working on human rights.

Contemporary human rights challenges:

These days, upholding human rights has become difficult. There are several challenges in defending people’s basic needs and rights. Health care, education, unemployment, and poverty are all on the rise. People continue to live below the poverty level in many nations. To protect their rights, they are up against obstacles. The rights of women and children are being violated in numerous nations. The recognition of the rights of religious and ethnic minorities must also acquire pace. Many governments around the world do not allow people to openly express their thoughts. These issues have become a challenge for every country and human rights organizations nowadays.

Human rights voices and social change:

The role of individuals as well as organizations is very important to protect human rights. It is not possible only for the organization to ensure all the rights of people. For this reason, we have to come forward so that everyone gets equal rights.

Various local organizations and media can play an important role in this regard. Local organizations can do human rights work on an area basis. People’s lives are disturbed in the area, the situation of those whose rights need to be ensured should be highlighted through various media. Social media can make a great contribution in this regard.

Apart from this, work can be done for the realization of rights through the global movement. In this way, the equal rights of people can be ensured through the collective efforts of all.

Laws and regulations:

According to Article III of the Constitution, human rights are included as fundamental rights in Bangladesh. According to Articles 19, 31 and 40 of the Constitution, women have equal rights and participation in all professions based on merit and equal rights under the law.

According to the existing Labor Act 2006 in Bangladesh, it will be considered as a crime if a child under 14 years of age works. The National Human Rights Commission Act was enacted in 2009. But according to experts, it needs more changes in the 21st century.

Empowerment & Development:

Awareness raising is needed to ensure human rights. This can be through education. If the light of education can be spread everywhere, everyone will be aware of equal rights. The light of education should be spread to those places where there is no spread of education. Empowerment of women should be ensured. Youth can play an important role in all fields from equal rights to women’s empowerment.

At present, the role of youth can be seen in every sector of the world. If the youth comes forward with regard to human rights, then the way to ensure the rights of all will be much easier.

Above all, people are true. We are all human beings, this is our basic identity. We have to ensure equal rights for all without looking at who is rich and who is poor. It is not possible for only the organization to do this. So let’s all come forward and ensure equal rights and Create a beautiful world.
