Professional life can not be a center point of everything even if it’s an inevitable part of our life. Being active in professional life is always appreciated but over-obsession with work is perceived to be a matter of concern. When we get too indulged in work or our desire to work becomes extreme, it is called workaholism. To maintain a work-life balance is not a cup of tea for any workaholic person as he has his mind fixated on excelling in professional life even at the cost of personal well-being.

The number of people who are too much into their work is not few in the world. The beam of brilliance has captivated these people in a way that it seems difficult for them to take any break from their work. A maximum portion of their time is allotted to their profession as if work were their only companion in this world! Taking a break from work will probably disrupt their productivity level and deter them from completing their professional tasks effectively; this is how workaholics think. Moreover, a constant fear of lagging in the race of being extraordinary seizes them.

Being a workaholic makes someone so glued to his work that he can not feel the importance of prioritizing his family. From morning to night, he has all the applications running on his mind like when to submit the work, how to be more productive, how to be more advanced than others, and so forth. His life hangs around his professional life and there is a common thing among all the workaholics that they don’t feel the necessity of maintaining work-life balance. Now the question may come up, “Doesn’t workaholism affect the quality of the personal life? There is no way to deny that it does affect their personal life adversely.

Although workaholism leads the workaholic to excel at professional life, too much workaholism makes anyone mentally down and frustrated in the long run, hampering mental peace and happiness. Moreover, satisfaction is something that will not come easily to a workaholic even if he has given his best shot at any project! He will always be running to break all the records of his own. All the emotions of his life will be associated only with his work and this materialistic happiness is temporary! Unfortunately, it will eventually make him lonely as his family members are not on his priority list. Remember, What we lost is what we ignored for a long time!

Anyone who isn’t over-obsessed with his work but tries to be active during office hours can have ample time for his family after office hours. Having a work-life balance can help anyone maintain a life that has the touch of recreation, healthy family bonding, serenity, and relaxation. A life that has balance in both personal and professional life is a thousand times better compared to a stressed life.

Therefore, a workaholic should ensure a work-life balance. To have a balanced life, the first thing a workaholic must do is acknowledge the fact of being a workaholic. Because if we don’t acknowledge the problem, we will probably not be taking any steps to solve that problem. After that, he must set a work boundary and stick to that certain work hours. Beyond work hours, he has to prioritize self-care and try to find out what hobbies he has. Doing what a person loves can be a fruitful way to relax minds and increase self-esteem. Moreover, a workaholic must have to realign his priorities and spend quality time with his family to have a satisfying and peaceful life.

To sum up, when one’s profession aligns with his passion, it will be natural to love one’s work. But, over-obsession with anything is not good for anyone. Making a work-life balance ensures mental peace. Thus, the choice is up to you whether you want to live like a workaholic or simply have a balanced life!
