We love sports. Everywhere we go, we will always find at least one person talking about sports. Whether it’s Football, Cricket, or  Hockey, sports have always occupied a soft corner in our hearts. The last-minute grand slam, the thrill of a penalty shootout, and everything push humans to their limit but surely bring them together. Sure, there are a lot of sports. But ever heard about one that balances the superhuman reflexes, relentless speed, with adrenaline-filled drama and engineering brilliance? Well, it is Formula 1, a high-class racing sport. also known as the pinnacle of motorsport!

Formula One (F1) is the ultimate stage of global racing. Here, “Formula” basically refers to the set of rules sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) that all participants must follow. Formula 1 cars are open-wheel and single-seater, and these racing cars must also be approved by the FIA. Each driver must own a valid Super Licence to compete in the race. Even the tracks where races are held must be of grade 1 and issued by the FIA. Usually, a Formula 1 season is held throughout the year. Each season consists of a series of about 24 races, called the Grand Prix. Grand Prix take place in different countries, and the racing tracks of each country are called circuits.

A single Formula 1 season features two World Championships for annual recognition, one for the drivers and the other for the constructors. 10 teams, each consisting of 2 players, compete in the Grand Prix. The teams represent constructors, or the car itself, such as Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari, and others.  In each Grand Prix, drivers race in a different circuit, with different corners, turns, and laps. A Grand Prix is a 3-day event where Fridays are for free practice sessions, Saturday is when the drivers qualify, and Sunday is the race day. Total race time in a Grand Prix must not be more than 2 hours. Only the top 10 finishers earn points, starting with 25 for 1st place and 1 for 10th place.

Formula 1 has become a global spectacle that unites motorsport enthusiasts. But when do you think it all began? It began over 70 years ago. Formula 1 has been collecting fans like Pokémon since then. During the 1940s, the World Manufacturers Championship and the European Drivers Championship were quite popular, which led to Formula 1 being official in 1947. In 1950, the first-ever Formula 1 championship was held. That year Giuseppe Farina won his first title. His teammate, Manual Fangio, won the next 5 titles and held the record for about 46 years until Michael Schumacher won his 6th title in 2003. He won a total of 7 titles, which is the same number of titles won by today’s star Lewis Hamilton. And you probably heard the names of prodigies like Sebastian Vettel, Ayrton Senna, and Niki Lauda. Max Verstappen is the current champion, having held four consecutive titles. At present, drivers like Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and George Russel are the backbone of the grid, and people love them.

Sometimes, when you mention Formula 1, some might say that it’s a boring sport where rich guys drive fast cars around in a circle. But is that really the case? Yes, one needs to have a strong financial background, but money alone can not bring one to the Formula 1 grid. Courage and skill play the Cupid here. To ride a Formula 1 car, a driver must undergo rigorous physical and mental training. They experience a G-force greater than fighter jet pilots. Reflexes are so crucial that one wrong move can lead to a disaster. On track, it’s like a drive to survive. A Formula 1 car is also not your regular sports car. These are engineered to cheat the wind. Beyond that, every race is like a chess game where drivers constantly communicate with their engineers and engineers analyze the race and make strategic moves in real time.

Formula 1 is not just a racing sport; it is emotion. The anxiety we get while watching our favourite drivers slicing through the corner and making it out to the pole position is so real. Every weekend, the limits of endurance, engineering are rewritten. It feels like watching a Detective series where every second is a twist and turn of who overlaps who. It is not bragging, but for those who actually know Formula 1, it is not just a sport; it is the pinnacle.
