The main international educational exchange program run by the US government, the Fulbright Program aims to improve understanding between the US and other nations. It provides financial aid to citizens of the United States so they can continue their study abroad and permits non-citizens of the United States to come to the country for research and knowledge exchange. Each year, the program offers over 8,000 awards for various categories and initiatives.

 

Program Application Details

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program, administered by U.S. Embassies, enables foreign students, professionals, and artists to study and research in the U.S., with around 4,000 foreign students receiving annual scholarships. Applications and grant conditions for the Fulbright Program differ depending on the nation and program. Applicants must fulfill the qualifications for binational agreement citizenship in 49 countries that have Fulbright Commissions. Applicants are required to have a valid passport and cannot possess dual citizenship (U.S. citizenship and permanent residency) with citizenship in a partner nation.

 

The Fulbright Program has a prolonged application procedure that is merit-based and asks applicants to think carefully about their intents, ideas, and ambitions. The program runs on an annual cycle, beginning 15 months or so before to the commencement date of the award and concluding 11 or 12 months in advance. U.S. Embassies in participating nations, binational Commissions, and other agencies oversee the initiative.

 

Fulbright Foreign Student Program in Bangladesh

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program provides scholarships to Bangladeshi young professionals to study graduate-level courses in the US, specifically for employees in Bangladeshi universities, research organizations, consultancy firms, and non-governmental organizations. The program covers various fields such as higher education, public health, business, economics, public policy, environmental sciences, urban planning, arts, psychology, security studies, biological and physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The Embassy is accepting applications from young academics and professionals. 

 

 Eligibility Requirements:  

  • Candidates must have a complete bachelor’s degree with an outstanding academic record.
  • Not currently enrolled in a U.S. degree program or holds a degree from a U.S. college or university.
  • Not eligible if the applicant holds a master’s degree from any foreign country but those are eligible if holding Bangladeshi master’s degrees. 
  • Must have at least two years of full-time professional experience relevant to their previous study area and future study program.
  • Must be fluent in English required minimum iBT TOEFL score of 90 or  IELTS 7.0. 
  • Must be a Bangladeshi citizen and need to stay in Bangladesh at the time of application. 
  • Required to submit a comprehensive online application.

 

Application Package   

  1. A completed online application. 
  2. The document includes academic transcripts and certificates from each post-secondary institution attended, including bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
  3. Three recommendation letters submitted and uploaded by the referees onto the online application portal (prospective candidates must register their referees through the “Recommender Registration” button on the online application site). 
  4. Academic records information form (available on the online application site). 
  5. Valid TOEFL / IELTS score. 
  6. Valid GRE or GMAT Score if available.  

Applications are generally due on June 1 each year.
