On 28 December 2022, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Bangladesh’s new milestone, Metro Rail, from Diabari in Uttara to the Agargaon section after facing many difficulties. This is a part of MRT Line-6 including 11.73 km. It is the first-ever transport included in our transportation system.

During the inauguration ceremony, Hasina said, Bangladeshi people technically touched the four milestones, one is that Metro Rail itself is a milestone, Another milestone is that trains will run digitally which means a remote control system, and the trains will be run by electricity that will work as a Smart Bangladesh’ and also the fast-paced trains will run at 110 km per hour which will be the highest speed of Metro Rail.

Now, we may have questions,

What are the benefits of the Metro Rail in Dhaka city?

There are thousands of advantages but we will show some key benefits-

1. Reduce Traffic Conditions

One of the most terrible problems in Dhaka city is the traffic jam. As a result, City dwellers lose their 19 million working hours per day which affects our country’s GDP by losing almost 6 to 10 per cent.

However, by using the metro train, people in Dhaka city save precious time and change their lifestyles. According to The Daily Star, The Metro Rail project will save 200 billion TK annually or 1.5% of the country’s GDP.

2. Environmental Safety

Dhaka city has lots of vehicles spreading toxic fumes that pollute the air. But the metro train will be electric which maintains communication well by protecting the environment. Additionally, side walls made of concrete will be constructed to reduce noise.

3. Create Job Opportunities

Metro trains need maintenance and operation which creates new job opportunities for Bangladeshi people. Also, in order to make the project profitable, rail authorities have a plan of constructing a metro hub station for passengers, including amusement parks, shopping malls, and daily commodities markets which will also create many employment opportunities.

4. Safe & Comfortable Journey

Because of the lack of buses during working hours, overcrowding and misbehaving of bus employees the people of Dhaka city suffered a lot. Also, the environment of buses is uncomfortable.

The journey will be safe and comfortable. Also, the metro train is fully air-conditioned for passengers’ comfort. Besides that, Bangladesh metro authorities have taken a great step for women to have more safety and comfort.

According to Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited’s managing director, MAN Siddique, the metro rail will include six carriages. Women will get exclusive use of one coach. But if women like it, they can also ride on other coaches.

5. Decentralization of Urban Population

Dhaka is the most densely populated city in Bangladesh as people come and stay in this capital to go to their offices easily or manage their businesses. As a result, they have to spend extra on house rent.

For instance, people who are from Savar, Gazipur and Narayanganj, need to live in the main city and pay extra house rent. After completing the whole route of the metro train, they can easily do their work from those cities. As a result, the Urban population will be decentralized.

What are the Do’s and Don’ts of riding the Metro train?

According to bdnews24, Highlighting the massive expenditure on the project, Hasina urged citizens to maintain cleanliness at the stations while using the electric trains in an orderly manner. There are some instructions for traveling on the metro train which must be maintained by a passenger while riding-
