Life is a mystery. And, when it comes to traveling, mysterious places are the number one choice. Mysterious places are now becoming the center of attraction for tourists. Haunted places in border areas are very common nowadays. But, most of us will be amazed to know that an extremely haunted and mysterious place is located on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Chikon Kala or Nefiu Para is a mysterious village which is located at Tlang Moy(Saka Haphong) between Bandarban, Bangladesh, and the Chin state of Burma, No Man’s Land of Bangladesh, and the Myanmar border. There are many scary stories about this village. People call the forest of this village the haunted forest of Chikon Kala. According to the villagers, from the forest, the voices of pigs, peacocks, tigers, and bears are often heard at night. Leopards are also spotted randomly. The villagers are quite superstitious. The people there claim that weird and horrible sounds come from the forest at different times throughout the year. They say that if anyone goes into the forest during that time, he never comes back. After a while, his dead body is found near the forest but the more surprising fact is that no signs of injuries are found on the body.

Visiting this place is not that easy. There are different dangerous animals. The communication system is very poor. But, the scenery described by the tourists is really soothing to the eyes.

In spite of the natural beauty, the locals forbid tourists to visit this forest as there are some popular myths, according to them which is the fact, among people.

The locals (Murung Tribe) believe that some sort of evil power is present there in the forest which is the source of the weird sound coming from the forest. During that time, if anyone enters the forest and can’t escape immediately, they never returns alive. According to the locals, they lose three to four or even more of their people in this cursed forest every year. The surprising fact is that when the dead bodies are found after a few days, they have no sign of any type of injuries. That’s why, the locals advise to avoid the forest especially from the evening to dawn.

On a radio platform, a story about this Chikon Kala forest was shared once.

It was 1979. Myanmar army tortured so many Muslim Rohingyas at that time in Rakhine State for which so many Rohingya refugees fled to Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government gave them shelter in Cox’s Bazar. At that time, a research team came to Bangladesh from the USA to meet the Rohingya people and know about the real situation. That team stayed in Bangladesh for 2 months. One day, they heard of a strange haunted place called Chikon Kala which aroused their interest. So, they decided to visit that place to disclose the real mystery.

As decided, one day they went to Chikon Kala and stayed there from morning to evening in the forest. But, they did not find anything weird. Like this, they wasted five days. But, as usual the team did not get a single sign of abnormal activities. They became bored and annoyed. The team came to a conclusion that all the rumors were just folktales and nothing real. They then decided to not go there anymore. But, one of them protested and proposed to go there just one more day. After much consideration, they went there the next day. Morning, noon and afternoon eventually passed. But, there was again no sign of haunted activities. So, in the evening, when they were about to leave the Chikon Kala jungle, 5 of them started hearing some weird sounds. According to the team members, each of them heard different types of sounds. One of them felt like there was an earthquake and then he suddenly sensed some soldiers coming towards them by riding horses. Another member heard the sound of a storm. It seemed like a strong wind was blowing around them and it was causing havoc around them. Like this, all the 5 members heard different types of sounds. Then the team decided to leave the forest immediately as they remembered what locals advised them about this haunted place. Eventually, five of them left the forest. But, unfortunately one member was left out there as he did not realize anything. When he was completely alone there in the jungle, he started hearing some sort of whispers. He felt like  some people were talking to each other. He tried to listen carefully and understood that they were not talking to each other. Rather, those paranormal creatures were saying something to him. Getting scared, he left the forest in a hurry.

It could have been the end of this story. But, unfortunately, that was not the case. The member who was the last to leave the haunted forest of Chikon Kala experienced many paranormal things in his life. He used to hear those whispers almost every night. He tried hard to understand the meaning of those whispers. At  last, he understood that it was Egyptian language. If  translated,  it will be something like “You will die, You will die…”. The member was an Egyptian but used to live in South Carolina, United states with his family. Even his family members heard those horrible whispers at night. That person died 5 years after this incident. But, his death was not normal. Looking at his dead body, it seemed like his death was due to experiencing something really fearful. The ultimate reasons were unknown. The mystery remained unsolved.

This intensified the terror of the village stories even more. This village is well known for its mysterious approach, but then again its unsolved mystery has kept the village kinda hidden too. Mystery and adventure lovers should definitely visit this place and try to uncover the truth. We can never predict what will happen.

Mysteries are there where they are less expected. So, watch out. Who knows what mystery is waiting for you on your way??
