Margielyn’s Journey Begins :

Margielyn Didal has been Breaking stereotypes and winning the hearts of people through her personality, exceptional skills and her hard work in the sport skateboarding.

Her love for skateboarding began when, she started to ride her brother’s skateboard in their neighbourhood at a very young age.

Coming to reality, In a male-dominated sport she was always criticised and faced scepticism despite facing these she pursued her passion and stayed determined in playing skateboarding.

Determination in the Face of Criticism :

She caught the attention of local skateboarders and coaches who recognized her talent and potential that is when her determination paid off and with their support and honour Margielyn practised more, increased her skills and became one of the most promising skateboarders in the Philippines.

But every success story has its challenges, similarly Margielyn had too. As she was born in a developing country she faced financial obstacles and had limited resources  for training.

Despite having these obstacles she refused to give up, she improvised her skills and practised with whatever she had and oftentimes she did skating barefoot on rough roads and makeshift ramps.

Margielyn’s Triumphs on the Global Stage :

When she competed in the Asian Skateboarding Championships in Singapore in 2013 her talent caught the eyes of the international skateboarding community.

She stunned the audience with her exceptional performance and got the gold medal in the women’s street event.

People also got to know more about her when She went on to compete in prestigious competitions around the world, including the X Games and the Asian Games.

She conquered history by securing the gold medal in 2018 at Asian games in Jakarta by representing her country Philippines in the women’s street skateboarding event.

She also represented the Philippines at the Olympics in Tokyo 2020. 

Margielyn’s Infectious Personality and Impact Beyond Skateboarding :

It was not easy for her being a female athlete in a male dominated sport but she proved it with her hardwork and exceptional performance.

Soon she became a symbol of hope, encouragement, empowerment and inspiration for young girls everywhere; breaking the stereotypes and proving that gender is no barrier for success.

She also earned the nickname “The Smile of Skateboarding” through her bubbly personality, positive attitude and smile.
