In this part of the interview, we will dive deeper into Rimsha Iqbal’s journey, exploring obstacles she has faced and lessons she has learned along the way. This is an inspiring glimpse to her world, where passion, perseverance, and dedication drive her forward.
YSSE: As a gamer, you have made a significant impact in e-sports. Could you share some of the challenges you have experienced?
Rimsha Iqbal:My journey in esports has been filled with highs and lows. As one of the few women in the scene early on, I faced discrimination, favouritism, and hostility-but I refused to get back down. Initially, I faced resistance from my family, but with every milestone I achieved, their support grew stronger.
YSSE: How did you navigate those challenges and overcome them?
Rimsha Iqbal: Despite facing numerous challenges and hardships along the way, I focused on self-improvement and sharpening my competitive skills. It became my priority to elevate myself as a player and an individual.
YSSE: Do you feel the gaming community in Bangladesh is inclusive and supportive of women?
Rimsha Iqbal: Yes. Bangladesh’s gaming community is evolving, becoming more inclusive and supportive of women. With dedicated tournaments like recent Valorent events, female players are earning the recognition and respect they deserve. Stronger community support is tearing down the barriers, allowing women to embrace esports without hesitation. And this positive change is only growing stronger!
YSSE: In what ways can the gaming community in Bangladesh be enhanced?
Rimsha Iqbal: There is still significant room for growth in women-inclusive tournaments, especially those with higher prize pools. Organizations must do more- whether by forming female teams or actively hiring and supporting women in competitive gaming.
Expanding visibility on international platforms is vital. It will open new doors, create opportunities, and inspire future generation women gamers to make their mark on the global stage.
YSSE: Do you feel gaming is one of the ways to break stereotypes about girls in our culture?
Rimsha Iqbal: Absolutely! Gaming is a powerful means of challenging stereotypes about girls in our culture. It breaks the outdated notion that gaming is a male-dominated activity and highlights that women can be equally skilled, passionate and dedicated.
This shift is pivotal in creating a more inclusive and equal space within the gaming world. It opens the door for girls to demonstrate their skills, and by doing so we move closer to the community where everyone regardless of their gender, can pursue their passions and succeed.
YSSE: How do you manage to balance your gaming career with your studies and personal life?
Rimsha Iqbal: Balancing studies, personal life, and gaming demands efficient time management. I prioritize my responsibilities, dedicating time to each one as needed. Staying organized and developing a routine helps me stay focused on my work while still making time for gaming. Though it can be tough at times, with discipline and support, it’s certainly achievable!
YSSE: Who or what inspires you the most in life?
Rimsha Iqbal: My inspiration comes from well-known international players such as Shroud, Juliano, Nadeshot, Petra and ScreaM.
YSSE: Are there any fun or unforgettable moments that stand out to you?
Rimsha Iqbal: One of the standout moments in my journey was winning my first female LAN tournament. Despite facing discrimination as a female gamer, I managed to prove that women can thrive in gaming and pursue it as a viable career.
A humorous moment I will never forget is when players in-game ask if I am a ‘young school-going boy’ simply because my voice sounds so young. It’s always a funny surprise!
YSSE: How do you see your gaming career evolving in the coming years?
Rimsha Iqbal: I see myself competing in more tournaments, becoming successful content creators, and eventually founding my own esports organization to empower women in esports. My goal is to provide opportunities for talented players and streamers who, like I once did, may struggle to get noticed. Everyone deserves a chance to showcase their skills and grow.
YSSE: Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring female gamers in Bangladesh who are looking to start streaming or grow as gaming content creators?
Rimsha Iqbal: My advice to female gamers in Bangladesh is to remain passionate and confident. Begin with small steps, stay consistent, and never hesitate to be your authentic self. The gaming community is expanding, and your voice is important. Keep improving, stay committed, and always uplift each other. The opportunities are limitless, if you trust yourself and continue pushing forward!
