Innovation must become the priority to find solutions for existing problems because modern society devotes too much effort to technology development alone. Rahat Uddin, a young innovator, educator, and researcher from Bangladesh exemplifies this mindset. Through his involvement with renewable energy together with disaster management and agricultural technology methods Rahat shows his influence across international platforms.
YSSE engaged in an interview with Rahat Uddin to learn about his life journey and present professional activities along with his plans for the future.
YSSE: Briefly tell us about yourself sir.
Rahat Uddin: Basically, I am from Chandpur and now living in Dhaka as I am working at ZNRF University of Management Sciences (ZUMS) as a Lecturer. As an engineer and innovator and teacher I pursue my professional role. I received my Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering degree from Presidency University. My work extends to two roles as I indulge in founding EcoTech Innovation Partnership Company where I serve as the CTO.
My interest in technology has always focused on developing systems which produce actual societal impact. My attention has remained fixed on renewable energy together with disaster management and agricultural solutions since these technological areas produce vital life-changing benefits.
YSSE: What inspired you most to become an innovator?
Rahat Uddin: Since my childhood, my constant curiosity led me to study every mechanism that I encountered. The disassembly of radios fans along with other gadgets became my habit to observe their internal mechanics. Soil challenges and power outages along with emergency preparedness gaps were the common problems I observed in my small area of rural environment during my early life.
At this moment I understood that technology should provide useful answers instead of merely generating new ideas. From an early stage of life my mindset led to my journey of innovation which continues through developing projects that matter to our world.
YSSE: Please share some of your impactful projects with us.
Rahat Uddin: Certainly! Among my major projects I have done the following.
- The Digital Portable Soil Testing Device (Matir Pran) lets farmers check soil quality in minutes for enhanced agricultural choices.
- Smart Vertical Axis Wind Turbine serves coastal zones to offer economical renewable power generation especially in locations without access to electricity.
- Emergency situations require the FM-Based Disaster Management System to relay important information through FM radio signals that function independently from failed networks.
- Every one of these projects existed to address real existing problems through practical frameworks that remained easy to access.
YSSE: Sir, you have received multiple national and international awards. How does that feel?
Rahat Uddin: It was an incredibly humbling experience. The path to innovation requires both teamwork with research alongside strict determination from all workers. Receiving electronic and software development awards from BASIS National ICT Award (2019, 2020, 2022) and tech titles from NASA Space Apps Challenge Runner-Up (2020) and Bangladesh Innovation Award (2021) validates collaborative innovation efforts.
These awards demonstrate that innovations created in Bangladesh possess worldwide capability beyond individual achievement. The awards motivate me to advance even more in my pursuit.
YSSE: You have mentored young innovators through NASA Space Apps. So why does mentorship mean a lot to you?
Rahat Uddin: My belief holds that shared innovation expands with each sharing opportunity. Initially I needed to discover actions through unintended learning because I was brand new to the task. I would count it as a win if I help innovative youths prevent useless challenges while speeding up their educational experiences.
Mentoring students remains one of my activities together with leading NASA Space Apps teams and working with youth innovation clubs. Future generations possess outstanding concepts which need proper coaching and guidance to succeed.
YSSE: You have traveled to 12 countries for various conferences and competitions. How has that experience shaped your perspective?
Rahat Uddin: The world has expanded before my eyes because I attended events in various locations including Russia and Germany and Thailand and Singapore to meet international innovators. There’s a saying “Innovation knows no boundaries”.
My experience has given me the opportunity to observe revolutionary developments in renewable technology and robotics as well as artificial intelligence. A persistent question appears in my mind whenever I think about Bangladesh adopting these concepts.
My goal is to link worldwide intellectual activities with domestically viable answers which allow us to implement revolutionary global concepts.
YSSE: What is your next vision?
Rahat Uddin: I have two major goals. The primary goal centers on increasing renewable energy availability in Bangladesh while prioritizing my work on the Highway Wind Turbine Project for producing power from vehicle generated wind.
Numerous excellent concepts fail to find their way to users because entrepreneurs lack proper implementation skills. The platform I wish to build will enable innovators to transform their concepts into practical solutions.
YSSE: Sir, please share some advice for aspiring young innovators.
Rahat Uddin: The key elements for innovation extend beyond money and equipment since it requires identifying issues along with developing efficient problem-solving approaches. Make no hesitation to experience failure because each failed attempt brings new knowledge. You should ultimately distribute your learned information. Helping others generates something which exceeds what we individually accomplish.
Lastly, Rahat Uddin enhances his status beyond innovation through making effective changes. He continues to shape the future by dedicating himself to sustainable solutions across youth mentorship and international cooperation as he drives Bangladesh to leadership in innovation. All of us at YSSE eagerly anticipate his upcoming impact.
