Just imagine that you are driving a car which can use H2 (Hydrogen) or N2 (nitrogen) from the atmosphere as fuel! It may seem to be an abstract concept but in near future, it can become reality. Already scientists have made Hydrogen cars. But it needs more development. In this blog, we will know about renewable sources of energy.
Non-conventional sources of energy continuously get renewed by nature. We all know it as a renewable source of energy. At Present, the whole world is heavily dependent on fossil fuels. But the problem is it will not last forever! So, we need to find alternative sources of energy which will not end. The solution is renewable sources. Let’s know about some renewable sources.
Tidal Energy
The periodic movement of water is known as the tide. Usually, dams and barrages are used to extract this tidal energy. In Bangladesh Kaptai Dam is built on the Karnaphuli river to extract tidal energy.
Wind energy
The energy extracted from wind flow is known as wind energy. A windmill is used to convert kinetic energy to electricity. Windmills are very costly to build and repair.
Solar energy
The sun is continuously burning and radiating its energy. A solar panel is used in order to collect energy from the sun. Only a few years ago, solar panels were very costly and people couldn’t avail of them. But now after years of research solar panels have become widely available. As a result, Nowadays people in rural areas also use solar panels daily. This indicates that renewable technology is becoming more and more cheap day by day.
Geothermal energy
Our Earth’s crust is undoubtedly very hot. Inside the earth, there are many hot rocks which heat up underground water and turn it into steam. The steam is extracted through a ground hole and is used to rotate turbines which generate energy. There are certain places where this phenomenon happens. It is known as Hotspots.
Biomass Energy
Biomass is the waste and remains of animals and plants. The carbon compound release energy when it is burnt. People in Bangladesh burn cow dung to use it as fuel. But it releases harmful gases. Nowadays bio-gas is produced from biomass. It is decomposed In the absence of Oxygen. It contains mainly methane. Also, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and sulfide. It is produced in dome-shaped chambers. In Bangladesh, people in rural areas produce bio-gas and use it for cooking purposes.
Nuclear Energy
Nuclear reactions tend to produce an enormous amount of heat and light as a by-product. Then the heat is converted to electricity. Nuclear reactions are done in a controlled space as they can be very dangerous. In this method, radioactive waste material is produced which needs to be stored properly.
As the world population is increasing, the demand for energy is also rising day by day. In the future conventional fossil fuel will be finished and we have to extract energy from renewable sources. That’s why we must find efficient methods of energy extraction in order to ensure our energy security.
